New Orleans Fashion Editorial Session for Furious Viola • 07.30.22
Furious Viola is a one of a kind [New Orleans] local shop that offers all inclusive “undergoodies” as a cute & comfortable alternative to standard spanks. I teamed up with Mindy, the owner, and Aubrey, the brand manager, to create some images that not only wowed but helped narrate Furious Viola’s mission and values.
I really enjoyed working with these ladies in New Orleans. We began our day shooting indoors at The Particular, a funky little space rentable by the hour for artists & musicians alike. Our first lovely model, Kendall, was an absolute rockstar. She brought her A game and then some. She modeled three looks for us - a loungey, casual look, a sexy, fierce look, and finally a night out look.
For the first look, clad in a pair of black undergoodie shorts, a matching black bra, and a light blue robe to wrap it up, we aimed to tell the story of a woman just waking up. Maybe it’s a slow and quiet Sunday and she’s taking her time brewing coffee in the kitchen. As natural light streams through the window, she sips said coffee and takes some time to catch up on her latest book she’s reading for Book Club.
For Kendall’s second look, we went for a steamy boudoir vibe. With the aesthetic of The Particular, I was really feeling show girl vibes, so we added a light-up hand fan and boa as props. Adding these items gave us the ability to enhance the narrative and increase our variety of poses and prompts. Kendall really rocked it here, serving us looks left and right. She was such a natural, she barely needed any direction. In order to achieve that Burlesque club vibe, I lit her with a centered strobe as a sort of spot light, while accenting her in a bright red. When you look at these photos, I want you to feel as if you are at the club watching Kendall perform.
We wrapped up our time with Kendall by creating a look that says girls’ night! Picture this - you and the ladies are hitting the town, starting with tapas and cocktails at a highly desired restaurant. When the checks are paid and the tips are left, the gang heads down to the strip where all their favorite local rag-tag bars reside. The laughs are rolling and the booze is flowing! It’s a damn good time for all.
After finishing up at The Particular, we said goodbye to Kendall and moved our party over to Aubrey’s house, where we set up a small picnic in her backyard. Thanks to Aubrey and her wonderful husband, the yard looked incredible! Lush green everywhere with little accents of colorful flowers. Instead of shooting with just one model, this time we used three. Three of the most wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of shooting. They brought joy and spunk to the session! You would never know they had all just met minutes before. They worked so well together, happly abilging to anything we asked of them. Connection was a big part of this narrative, and they pulled it off better than anyone could’ve asked.
All in all, Mindy and Aubrey seemed just as happy with the photos we got as I was. That’s a win in my book! Fashion photography has always been a favorite of mine. It is actually what sparked my interested in photography all those years ago. I am so over the moon to have teamed up with such amazing people for such a wonderful product. I am definitely looking forward to more in the future.
